Using Tarot For Personal Development

Guilded TarotThe Tarot is seen as a method for psychics to tell the future, and while this is true the usefulness of the Tarot in your own life goes far deeper than just divination. Find out how Tarot cards can be used for personal growth, and the benefits that can be gained by using Tarot cards as a tool for evaluating your life.

Generally Tarot cards are used to give someone a Psychic reading.  A good reading will point you towards areas of your life that you need to look at and work on but most turn out to be just a prediction of what will happen in your life.  While a prediction of your future can be very useful the greater benefits come from using the Tarot to get a new perspective on the situation that your enquiring about, whether the reading is for yourself or someone else.

I often use the Tarot to give readings both for myself and others. Using the Tarot for divination is something that i strongly believe in but it is also something that cannot be proven, however the Tarot can still be very useful to you even if you don’t use it for predicting the future. Infact the Tarot can still be useful to you if you don’t believe that the future can be predicted at all. The greatest and most spiritual use for the Tarot is its use in provoking thoughts about your own life that wouldn’t normally occur to you, and for that reason using the Tarot for your own personal development is very useful despite what your beliefs may be.

Psychology Of The Tarot & How To Use This For Personal Development.

Tarot cards can be seen as representing archetypes which are fundamental types of person or situation for example the Emperor may represent a farther figure. Carl Jung was the first psychologist to attach importance to the Tarot and may have seen the cards in this way.

Today some psychologists use Tarot cards to identify how a client views himself or herself, by asking the patient to select a card that he or she identifies with. It is sometimes used as a means of clarifying a client’s perception of a situation by asking the client to imagine his or her situation in terms of Tarot cards. This can allow the analysis of the subconscious mind at a conscious level.

Divination, or fortune-telling, is sometimes seen as an extension of the psychological use mentioned above. It may be that you are subconsciously aware of the possibility of a situation arising before you consciously admit it to yourself. For example you might be subconsciously aware that a relationship or job is in trouble. In that sense, a meaning may emerge from almost any selection of cards. Tarot diviners in general would disregard this believing that Tarot cards simply allow them to exercise a psychic ability to see the future. However even if that isn’t the case Tarot cards can still help us because when we use the cards for divination we are forced to look for the meaning in the symbolism and to do this we need to look at every aspect of our lives which in turn will give us a greater understanding of the meaning of our lives and the lessons we can learn from life.

Symbolism.

Different people may find different meanings in the same image and they may also attribute different images to the same meaning so it is no surprise that with the Tarots long history interpretations of its symbolism have evolved with new images and reshaped meanings. However the symbolism of the Tarot is generally regarded as describing spiritual progress with each card describing a particular aspect of life. The essence of using the Tarot for personal growth and development or even for divination, is to find meaning in its symbolism and then relate this to our own lives. It is believed that in this way the symbols of the Tarot give us a further understanding of our lives and an insight into our future.

Useful Exercise For Personal Growth.

Here is a simple exercise that can be used to introduce you to using the Tarot for personal development. Pick just one card from a Tarot Deck, dont think to much about the cards meaning but instead just look at the image and ask yourself, what is going on in the picture? Did anything in the image stand out to you? Does it remind you of anything? How can the image be related to your own life?
